At times the Masjid must be a place of quite and contemplation, but do not forget that it is also a place where the community meets. It is a place where our children should feel comfortable and excited to visit. The Masjid is not just a place of worship. The Masjid must also be a place where the children should feel free to play when there is no class or Salat in progress. Remind them of this and most of all, remind yourselves of this fact of the Sunnah.
Narrated ‘Aisha:
Once I saw Allah’s Apostle at the door of my house while some Ethiopians were playing in the mosque (displaying their skill with spears). Allah’s Apostle was screening me with his Rida’ so as to enable me to see their display. (‘Urwa said that ‘Aisha said, “I saw the Prophet and the Ethiopians were playing with their spears.”)
